The Wolf

We first visited The Wolf on a Tuesday night, which also happened to be open mic night. The relaxing environment really stuck out to us, and it was so much fun enjoying some original music and delicious food. We have visited during lunch hours also and found the menu to be delightful and enticing, with very high quality food to choose from!

Chipotle

Fall 2014 060Chipotle is a higher end fast food chain that has recently received a lot of press for their decision to go GMO free.  This move has given Chipotle the credit they deserve for their long time use of higher quality ingredients, especially compared to most fast foods. Their positive sales have reflected their commitment as consumers have become more aware of food quality and are driving the market forces in a positive direction. While Chipotle sales have risen recently, during the same time frame McDonalds fast food chain has suffered, closing hundreds of stores.  Chipotle really cares about the source of their produce and meat and they try to support local farms that treat their animals respectfully and their plants as naturally as possible. They even stopped selling some of their pork products at one point because they could not get it from their good source any more.

Shout Out-Olive Street Cafe

124The relatively new Olive Street Cafe in Creve Coeur is making an effort to use local Saint Louis products, accommodate gluten free diners and serve a delicious, varied menu for breakfast and lunch. Not to mention that it’s super exciting to have somewhere new open up that isn’t downtown or in Forest Park! Continue reading Shout Out-Olive Street Cafe

Crazy Bowls and Wraps

Needing a casual place to grab some quality food with quick service, we decided to try the Crazy Bowls and Wraps restaurant located in Creve Coeur, Missouri. This restaurant has recently made a fabulous transition with the quality of their food and we were pleasantly surprised with this local chain’s efforts to provide good quality food. It had been a few years since I had been to this restaurant and the positive changes they made definitely reflect the growing demand for more natural foods. It is nice to know we have somewhere right near our house to grab some fresh and organic food and we are definitely now fans of this locally owned Crazy Bowls and Wraps restaurant! (Hannah)

PuraVegan Cafe

AcaiBowlIf you’re one of the many yoga fanatics who enjoy a super smoothie or vegan bite after a re-energizing yoga session, you’ll LOVE PuraVegan! This place is a yoga studio with a 100% vegan and gluten free restaurant conveniently located next door. It was recommended to us multiple times by relatives, friends, and owners of other restaurants, so we were very excited to finally check it out for ourselves. Their somewhat restricted hours conflicted with our availability, making it a challenge to visit, but it was well worth the wait. Since our first visit we have been back several times to try out more of the delicious menu items, and have been very happy with their range of options. We also recently discovered that one of our relatives is a chef here and are pleased to announce that we are related to the genius behind some of their wonderful dishes!

Good food, nice atmosphere, good service- it’s no surprise we recommend this place. What other vegan restaurant owns its own yoga studio?

Rooster

roost5Rooster is one of the many local St. Louis restaurants owned by David Bailey as part of all six of the Baileys’ sister restaurants.  We discovered this restaurant on a hunt for gluten free crepes and were pleased with Rooster’s food as well as their environmental practices.  This trendy café was very busy on the Sunday afternoon when we went and it was clear that many locals enjoyed the delicious brunch menu.  We are definitely looking forward to dining at the rest of the Bailey restaurants and hope they are just as enjoyable!

Winslow’s Home

January 2015 248Winslow’s Home is a unique restaurant dedicated to providing fresh and local foods. How fresh is it? A lot of the produce comes straight from their own garden, into the kitchen, and on to our plates.  It’s a great sit down restaurant, but they also sell a range of other items from baked goods to cool home decor.

Shout Out – Houlihan’s

IMG_0650 (1)Houlihan’s is a chain that serves a lot of “regular” food. Although they aren’t our favorite place to support, we do like the fact that they are at least trying! It is a great go-to restaurant and it’s nice to know that there are a couple things on their menu that you can order without feeling too guilty.

Tree House

January 2015 096After driving through South Grand Boulevard on our last eating adventure we discovered many more restaurants that we needed to try! So before seeing Annie at the Fox Theater, we stopped by Tree House to try it out! We have gotten a little bit frustrated with trying to find out information about the quality of the food at some of these restaurants, because much of the staff is not well informed. Especially here, we got a lack of answers and the answers we did get seemed to conflict depending on the person we asked. Although the food tasted great, it is always a better experience when we are aware of the quality of the food we are eating. (Miriam)
